Poppies, Pumpkins, and Festive Cheer!
The autumn months have been a whirlwind of creativity here at the studio! From meaningful community pottery workshops to festive preparations, I’m excited to share what I’ve been up to.
A Field of Poppies
In the first pottery workshop of the season, I worked with children and parents at a local primary school to create a stunning field of clay poppies in honour of Remembrance Sunday. In the workshop, we explored the significance of poppy colours—red, purple, black, and white—and each participant glazed their poppy with care. The finished pieces were mounted on rods and proudly displayed just in time for the occasion.
Mindful Moments
November’s Mindful Art with Laura sessions have been heart-warming. Seeing participants carve out time for creativity and relaxation has been so rewarding.
A London Adventure
Amid the studio bustle, I escaped to London for some inspiration, including Open Studios and the rare sight of a Roman kiln in action. It’s always amazing to see the timelessness of pottery come alive.
Gonk Mania!
My kitchen is currently overrun with clay gonks drying out for their final firing. They’re such fun to make, and if you’d like to create your own, my next pottery workshop is the perfect chance. Bring a friend and enjoy a discounted rate—it’s a lovely way to spend a winter’s day. https://lidscraftingstudio.com/seasonal-pottery-workshops/
Christmas Creations Begin
Regular classes have been abuzz with festive spirit! And I’ve introduced stoneware glazes to my own work, perfect for heat-resistant pieces like my latest candle pots, which feature delicate leaf and herb impressions. Pouring my own scented candles for these pots has been a highlight. You can find these and other handmade treasures in my Etsy shop, including beautiful decorations and gift-worthy pieces. https://www.etsy.com/shop/lidscraftingstudio/
Looking Ahead
I’m planning more mindful art and pottery workshops for the New Year, so keep an eye out for announcements. Whether you’re a seasoned maker or curious beginner, there’s something for everyone.
