A round up of Summer at the Pottery.

Pottery Class News: Summer Highlights & What’s Coming Up!

This summer has been an inspiring one in the pottery studio. Our classes focused on honing hand-building skills, particularly slab work. The creativity in the air was palpable, and we saw some truly beautiful and fun creations. From under-the-sea-themed tiles to a Troika-influenced vase, each piece brought its own unique charm.

As for me, I dedicated much of my time to throwing on the wheel – because let’s face it, you can never have enough practice! Alongside the studio work, I also managed to visit some incredible pottery open studio events in London, where I got to see a wide variety of stunning ceramic art.

But it wasn’t all about work! I took a well-needed break with a trip to the Forest of Dean, where I was able to unwind and recharge. Which brings me to one of my Top Tips for bringing more mindfulness into your day:

Mindfulness Tip: STOP and GO OUTSIDE

We often get caught up in our to-do lists, work, and the hustle of everyday life. One of the easiest and most effective ways to bring a little mindfulness into your day is to simply stop what you’re doing and head outside for a few moments.

Whether it’s a walk in the park, a sit in your garden, or just taking in the sky for a few minutes, being in nature allows your mind and body to reset. The simple act of breathing in fresh air and paying attention to your surroundings can reduce stress and bring you back to the present moment. So next time you feel overwhelmed, take a step outside and notice how the sounds, sights, and smells of nature can ground you. It’s a small act with big benefits!

I have Mindful Art classes running online if you would like to get more creative.

Summer Reads

When I’m not in the pottery studio, I love diving into a good book. This summer, a couple of titles really stood out for me. Liane Moriarty’s “Apples Never Fall” was an absorbing family drama with lots of twists and turns – perfect for those who enjoy a suspenseful yet emotional read. Another standout was “A Waltz for Matilda” – by Jackie French, a gripping historical novel set in the late 1800s Australia. The story takes you back in time with rich details and powerful characters, making it a real page-turner.

What’s New? October Pumpkin-Making Classes!

With Halloween just around the corner, I’m excited to announce that I’ll be running pottery Pumpkin-Making Classes in October! 🎃 These classes will be great fun and perfect for all levels. We’ll be using a simple yet effective technique of joining two pinch pots to form the pumpkin shape and experimenting with surface manipulation to create unique designs. Then, we will also use some brush-on glazes for decoration – it’s a hands-on, creative way to celebrate the season.

If you’re intrigued by the idea of crafting your own pottery pumpkin, now’s the time to sign up! I’ve even added a little extra incentive: sign up with a friend and enjoy a discounted rate. 🍂

It’s a wonderful way to bring some mindfulness and creativity into the cosy autumn months.
